Awa Njie
I'm a core-volunteer Activista the Gambia and also a Swarm blogger. My wish is to see a world free from injustice!
My name is Awa.k. Njie and I am a 21 years old Gambian.
I live with my extended family including my grandmother, uncles, aunties and lots of cousins in our family compound in Bundung.
The Gambia is known as the smiling coast of West Africa because of its peace and loving people - and I am happy to be one of these!
I started my activism with the Gambia Red cross Society when I was just 11 years old as a volunteer, getting communities, particularly women involved in the work of Red Cross.
In 2009 I received a merit certificate from the Gambia Red Cross Society, as a token of appreciation towards my commitment and dedication in serving humanity. I was also awarded the National Child friendly award in 2008 as the female child right's advocate of the year by young people in the media.
I also volunteer with ACTIVISTA the Gambia, African Youth Coalition Against Hunger and other youth organisations. Recently I became part of the Activista Blogger Swarm which is global blogging group where we will posting blogs about food injustice and climate change.
Presently am attending the University of the Gambia, aspring to have my BSc in development studies as a major and as well as management as a minor.
My hobbies are reading interesting novels (Double Cross and Harry Potter are my favourites), research and making friends. Besides that I love cooking - especially traditional Gambian food.
