ActionAid Australia appoints new Executive Director

28/07/2017: ActionAid Australia today announced the appointment of Michelle Higelin its new Executive Director.

Having been with ActionAid Australia as theorganisation’sDeputy Executive Director for 4 years, Michelle Higelin brings a deep understanding of ActionAid’s approach, values, and strategy to the role, which she takes up today.

Michelle Higelin has been working with women’s organisations in Australia and internationally for more than 20 years, and has more than 15 years of senior management experience in NGOs focused on human rights and development. Her roles have included Deputy Executive Director of the World YWCA, one of the world’s largest women’s rights movements, and CEO of YWCA Australia.

Acting President of the ActionAid Australia Board, Megs Alston, said:

She brings to ActionAid an impressive history of leadership at the global and national levels, and has achieved significant advancements for women’s rights through her work in global advocacy. She is an inspiring leader, and we’re excited to have found such an ideal fit for the role. We’re confident that she will lead ActionAid Australia to achieve the ambitious objectives defined its new five-year strategy, ‘Women’s Leadership for Global Justice’.”
