Access to Common Food Resources

The campaign aims to conserve and access to natural resources i.e. wetlands as a common property and conserve rural food chain as common and traditional food resource of marginalized people in Haor basin of Bangladesh.

It demands access to wetlands, which focus social and customary rights of marginalized people on wetlands/water bodies.  The voices of grassroots marginalized people’s will be raised through the campaign for example it will be sensitized people about common/social/traditional resources of food and it will be helped policy makers to re-arrange the wetland management policy as well as common property resources for rural poor people to ensure their access.

The campaign will be starts in April 2011 and continues up till September 2011; through community consultations, grassroots peoples, assembly/gathering, media mobilization, civil society consultations, policy dialogues the campaign will sensitize peoples, planners and policy makers.

N.B: A haor is a wetland ecosystem in the north eastern part of Bangladesh which physically is a bowl or saucer shaped shallow depression, also known as a backswamp. In a country where one third of all area can be termed as wetlands, the haor basin is an internationally important wetland ecosystem, which is situated in Sunamganj, Habiganj and Moulvibazar districts and Sylhet Sadar Upazila, as well as Kishoreganj and Netrokona districts outside the core haor area.
