About our work
We are an international anti-poverty agency which takes sides with poor people to end poverty and injustice together.

Formed in 1972, for over 30 years we have been growing and expanding to where we are today - helping over 13 million of the world's poorest and most disadvantaged people in 42 countries worldwide.

In all of our country programmes we work with local partners to make the most of their knowledge and experience.

In July 2004 we started a full-fledged country programme in Cambodia. We work with local partners and marginalised poor communities in 17 out of the country's 24 provinces, helping them fight for and gain their rights to food, land and shelter, work, education, healthcare and health, and a voice in the decisions and policy making that affect their lives.

Our partners range from small community groups to grassroots associations, community-based organisations, national alliances and international networks who seek education for all, trade justice, food security, effective aid and action against HIV/AIDS.

Our role is not to replace the responsibilities of the state but rather to ensure that the state is affirmative, accountable and committed to its responsibilities, particularly to the poor and marginalised. This can be most effectively done through our current direct contact with the most vulnerable groups, our work with partners and our involvement with other actors on specific issues. We need also to build stronger relations with different levels of government, seeking out those officials who are committed to the development of their country through justice and equality, and support them in their concerted efforts to do so.
