Bordering with Vietnam, Guangxi is one of the poorest regions in China. Guangxi has 12 ethnic groups, including Zhuang, Han, Yao, Miao and Yi, with Zhuang as the largest group. The regions's harsh ecological environment with many rocky mountains has made it difficult for people to earn a living off their unfertile land. HIV/AIDS is another challenge to people in the bordering towns in recently years.
What Actionaid China is doing?
With four development areas established in Guangxi, Actionaid China has launched various programs covering livelihood, women's right, education, an governance issues. Cultural activity center and care center for left-over children are established in Longzhou.
Actionaid China also cooperates with other NGOs to address HIV/AIDS issues in Ningming. HIV/AIDS peer education programs are launched in Hengxian.
Since most people in Actionaid China's project areas are ethnic Zhuang people, AA China also works with local people to create more livelihood based on their distinctive culture and art.
