ActionAid Ethiopia works in more than 2.7 million people located in nine states including city administrations. The organization works at local and national levels to address the immediate and long term needs of poor and excluded people.

ActionAid works in collaboration with organisations of poor and excluded people on five thematic areas namely; HIV and AIDS, Food Security, Good Governance, Women and girls’ rights, and Education.

At community level, ActionAid works to empower poor and excluded people to meet their needs and also claim their rights. It works with women, girls and men to transform the unequal power relations between men and women.

ActionAid also works to ensure that government and other development actors including donors and multilateral institutions at various levels are responsive and accountable to the needs and rights of poor and excluded people.

It works with organizations of People Living with HIV and AIDS to improve systems for prevention, care and support. The organisation also advocates for access to treatment and eradication of stigma and discrimination associated with AIDS.

ActionAid’s policy research and advocacy activities seek to promote good and accountable governance. It advocates for pro-poor policies and government’s responsiveness to ensure they recognise, respect and fulfill human rights for all. It places a major emphasis on the rights of women and girls.

The organisation supports advocacy for creation of an enabling environment for civil society organisations and media to enhance democratic governance and citizens’ participation.
