Efo Kojo Mwaugbe’s last play Cinderama – a Ghanaian retelling of Cinderella - was the magnet that brought ActionAid Ghana, The Ghana National Theatre and Efo in particular together to forge a relationship. The relationship was to promote Cinderama - the play which re-echoes passionately the right of girls to education in a violent free environment.

This relationship ensured that thousands of children in ActionAid Ghana’s communities in the Upper East, Upper West, Volta, Northern, Brong Ahafo and Greater Accra regions watched and reviewed the play in the year 2010. As efforts are underway to roll out the second phase of the agreement, Efo passed away untimely.

ActionAid Ghana has lost one of her dearest friends and allies in development.

The pre-burial service of renowned play-write, Efo Kodjo Mawugbe, was held this morning at the forecourt of the State House, Accra, and the body was laid to rest at the Osu Cemetery here in Accra.

Efo, as he was affectionately called, was given a state burial in recognition of his immense contributions to the development of the culture, art and drama of the country.

The award-winning play-write died on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a protracted battle against prostate cancer and paralysis.

Dignitaries from the arts, academia, NGOs as well as politicians are attending the service.

Notable amongst them were writer and poet Professor Atukwei Okine, former Education Minister Alex Tettey-Enyo, Country Director Adwoa Kwateng Kluvitse and ActionAid Ghana and Local Government Minister Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.
