ActionAid is a global movement of people working together to further human rights and defeat poverty for all.

Brong Ahafo Region

The Brong Ahafo (BA) Regional Rights Programme was started in 2000 in the Asutifi District. In 2005, the programme expanded to cover the Tain district. Currently, the programme operates in 36 communities in both districts.

The BA programme supports poor and marginalised people in the region to engage government agencies to ensure that pro-poor policies and legislations not only exist, but are implemented to protect their basic rights.

ActionAid supports capacity building for people living in poverty to claim their rights, and also supports District Assemblies and other government agencies to respond effectively to community needs.

Through capacity building in advocacy and lobby work, community members in Brong Ahafo are supported to speak up and take action to address issues that affect their lives.

Programme interventions

Rights to education, women’s rights and food rights form the basis for ActionAid’s key intervention areas of empowering the poor and excluded to claim their rights.

The target population of ActionAid’s work in this region includes women, children and people living in poverty as well as traditional leaders.
