Take Action! Sign the Petition!
In the following months, an estimated 200,000 Dominicans of Haitian descendants are at risk of being deported from Dominican soil. It is the result of the [TC n° 168-13] law sanctioned last September 2013 that rendered a lot of people in the country in legal limbo. Last May 2014, another law was authorized to accommodate these people that were deemed ‘stateless’ a chance to apply for a legal citizenship. The naturalization process was difficult, humiliating, expensive, and mostwere notsuccessful. This absurd pathway to citizenship ended last February.
Less than 10,000 people were able to apply for citizenship under this new law. Thousands more still face uncertainty and unlawful deportation.
ActionAid Haiti supports this petition and continues to call on people from all race and nations to sign the petition and encourage people to take action on this matter. While the original petition calls for 1,000 signatures, AAH aims for a higher number of signatures and participation to give emphasis on the urgency of the matter.
