The number of people suffering from hunger is set to reach over 1 billion this year, which means 1 in 7 people do not have enough to eat. That’s more people than the US, Canada and the EU combined.
Small scale farmers produce half the world’s food and most of them are women. If we are to solve hunger, it is vital that smallholder farmers, and in particular women, are supported and protected from the food and climate crisis.
In 2012, we’re continuing to press for increased international support and investment that truly meets the needs of communities in developing countries. It is vital that we keep up the pressure on governments to deliver their promise to halve world hunger by 2015.
