    ActionAid International want to work with you to design a template for mapping public policies and ActionAid and allies work that supports or hinders rural livelihoods and climate justice for young people and rural women across the globe. The mapping will be conducted at global, regional and national level.

     

    The objective is to identify which policies are aiding or hindering right to food, food sovereignty and agroecology, women’s rights to land and natural resources and building climate resilience. The work will be used to support young people, rural women to influence public policy that strengthens rural livelihoods and climate justice.

     

    As well as designing the mapping and assisting in gathering information, the successful candidate or organisation will be required to produce a clear, concise paper of key findings and implications for countries including opportunities for further engagement at local, national and global level and run a webinar for the platform and partners to best understand what has emerged.

     

    You must have demonstrable expertise on women’s rights, geographic expertise in at least some project countries as well as experience in managing and coordinating evaluation/research exercises, including with or through country-based partners, delivering agreed outputs on time and on budget. Most importantly, you will be able to demonstrate understanding of and commitment to ethical issues in research/evaluations.

    ActionAid Bangladesh is looking for a Youth Advisor to build the capacity of ActionAid and partners to strengthen youth perspectives in advocacy and policy initiatives as well as improve their engagement in international networks and social movements.

    ActionAid Bangladesh (AAB) in its Fifth Country Strategy Paper has prioritised the agency of young people and women across all its programme interventions. Having extensively engaged with young people across communities, AAB now seeks to co-convene, facilitate and co-create with local struggles and connect better with progressive social movements, young people themselves and their movements. With increased emphasis on addressing the needs and demands of young people supported by the Government of Bangladesh’s 7th Five Year plan and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), AAB aims to address the causes of unemployment amongst young people and support their school to work transitions through securing decent work.

    Over the course of the next five years, AAB will work to strengthen the agency of young people, their networks and partners that promote social cohesion; ensure young women and those from minority communities are represented and have opportunities for leadership; and improve access of young people to quality skills development and sustainable incomes through exploring opportunities for decent work, sustainable employment and resilient livelihoods.

    The Advisor will provide technical expertise and support to the implementation of programme initiatives in line with the Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) between AAB and ActionAid Denmark (AADK). The incumbent will:

    • Build the capacity of AAB, implementing and strategic partner staff, and provide support in implementing actions outlined in the SPA;

    • Co-create and co-design research, advocacy and policy initiatives;

    • Strengthen partnerships with networks, alliances, movements and sector stakeholders at all levels (national, regional, international);

    • Knowledge management and dissemination.

    Under the direct supervision of the AAB Country Director, the Advisor will undertake the following responsibilities and tasks but keeping in mind s/he should be flexible and able to adapt to the changing context and perform tasks as necessary related to the programme.

    Key responsibilities

    1) Support to develop platforms and networks at national, regional and global level:

    • Identify and map out the relevant national, regional and global platforms to develop connection and networking;

    • Support to develop strategic relationship according to the project objectives and SDGs, aligned with Country Strategy Paper of AAB, with the various platforms, networks and forums at national, regional and global level, including UN mechanism;

    • Support the young people to represent in the various national, regional and international platforms to raise voice and giving critical reflection;

    • Examine gaps emerging from the convening of young people and allow learnings to inform and develop implementation strategies forgoing work of country programmes.

    2) Support national programme implementation:

    • Support the national project team for the strategic implementation of the project by engaging various stakeholders and strategic partners;

    • Support the project team in designing/ reviewing advocacy strategies meant to implemented at local and national level according to the project objectives such as economic opportunity & decent work for young people, youth & gender responsive public services and youth representation & participatory democracy;

    • Support in co-convening a multi-stakeholder conferences/workshops and related initiatives on youth led accountability of the SDGs;

    • Support young people in participating in regional policy and advocacy spaces;

    • Connect young people with international institutions at national, regional and global levels;

    • Support to coordinate the work of national and international Inspirators and develop their capacity to deliver the ToR.

    3) Support in project reporting process:

    • Supporting in the project reporting process;

    • Support to identify outcomes according to the project objectives;

    • Support documentation of best practices on alternatives emerging from the country and sharing it in the online platform.

    The Advisor will report to AAB’s Country Director and will be supported by a team comprising of both national and international staff. S/he will also be required to work across AAB’s other strategic and operational priorities to ensure that the programme is well developed and results are communicated effectively.

    ActionAid (AA) is an international anti-poverty agency formed in 1972. We are a partnership between people in poor and rich countries working together to end poverty and injustice. We are seeking to recruit the following positions to be based in either London, Nairobi or Johannesburg:

    1. Digital Campaigner (Maternity cover for 6 months) – The role will coordinate ActionAid's regional and global online advocacy and campaigns presence and advises countries on digital strategies. You will be responsible for making the online presence of the signature campaign come to life. Leads the development and roll-out of communication and digital engagement tools and products for signature campaign, support country campaigns and our youth programming and engagement. To qualify for this role you need a Relevant Bachelors or Master’s degree or more than five years’ experience in civil society campaigning.

    2. Internal Communications Coordinator (1-year contract) - The role will lead in ensuring timely, accurate management information is shared and cascaded from Directors through to staff. The role holder will promote informal and formal communications around mission related achievements and activities reinforcing a culture of “excellence and activism” and support the Global Secretariat Leadership on specific communications related activities. To qualify for the role you need a degreeand/or a minimum of five years’ work experience in internal organisational communications and information management. Do you have proven ability to write and tailor key messaging in an accessible manner to various stakeholders? Are you Experienced and have excellent skills in the use of communications technology (specifically social media, audio and video, intranet/sharepoint, Microsoft Office 365 etc.)?     The Role:

    Qualifications & Experience:                                                                                      

    1. The ideal candidate should have a post graduate degree either in social sciences, development studies, management, international development studies or any other development ‐ related area.

    2.       At least 5 ‐ 10 years in the top management position of a development organisation working in poverty alleviation programmes with proven initiatives, flexibility and enthusiasm in managing complex activities in a changing environment. 

    3.      Experience working as Executive/Country Director for a similar organisation, including proven ability to lead and develop the capacities of multi‐disciplinary professional team undertaking comprehensive poverty alleviation strategy is an advantage

    4.       Strong analytical, problem solving, crisis management, conflict management and risk management skills.

    5.       Proven experience in financial management and financial control and management systems with the budget size of at approximately MWK 16 billion a year.

    6.       Sound awareness of the political, social, economic and historic environment in which ActionAid’s poverty alleviation programmes are operating at both national and community levels.

    7.       Sound and up to date knowledge of development concepts with human rights-based approach, methodologies and techniques including demonstrated expertise in at least one specialist development field.

    8.       Fund raising skills with the knowledge of the donors landscape in Southern African countries in general and Malawi in particular.

    9.       Excellent negotiation and communication skills, including demonstrated ability to handle sensitive diplomatic and Government level negotiations on matters affecting ActionAid Malawi programmes.
