ActionAid Kenya has a two-tier governance structure made up of a General Assembly and a National Board. In addition, ActionAid Kenya also has a Senior Management Team.
General Assembly
The National Board
The Board is smaller than the General Assembly comprising of not more than 15 people, and meets quarterly to provide leadership and guidance to management. As a governance body it is not another tier of management but a source of advice, oversight and constructive challenge. Its members are elected by the General Assembly from among the members of the Assembly.

Bijay Kumar - Secretary to the Board and Executive Director, ActionAid Kenya
Bijay Kumar is the Executive Director and Secretary to the Board of ActionAid Kenya. Bijay has extensive experience and expertise in development, humanitarian and emergency response. He is credited with building strong community led initiatives that have influenced governments to deliver on call to human rights. Prior to joining ActionAid Kenya, Bijay served as Country Director in Sri- Lanka and Afghanistan and most recently as the International Head of IHART where he was instrumental in bringing ActionAid’s focus on Risk Reduction, Response and Resilience building.
Abubakar K.Said ,Board Treasurer - ActionAid - Kenya
Abubakar K. Said is a Civic Education Manager at Uraia Trust and he has an extensive knowledge in Democracy and Governance, Institutional development, Public Policy and Advocacy. He now serves as the chair of the the board audit committee.

Isabella Mwagodi, Board Member - ActionAid Kenya

Jacqueline Mutuku is a human rights activist with vast experience of at least 15 years in human resource and administration. She is a member of the governance and human resource development committee of ActionAid Kenya.
She has been a committed and active member of the general assembly and the board since 2008.

Makena Mwobobia, Head of Programmes
Makena Mwobobia has over fifteen years of International, National and Field Development Management. She steers the organisation’s programming through the Human Rights Based Approach right from the communities, Local Rights Programs, National and at the international level. Makena is attributed for founding the Sauti ya Wanawake Sauti at the Coast Region. She also oversaw the establishment of Girls' Forums in schools to reduce violence against girls in schools. She continues to steer ActionAid to put Women Living in Poverty and Exclusion at the centre of its work.

Jack Odhiambo, Head of Finance
Jack Odhiambo has worked in various sectors including Manufacturing, Real estate, Clearing & Forwarding, Non Profit Sector, SACCOs and Commercial Sector at senior level. His key areas of expertise include but are not limited to Institutional Management, Investment Diversification, Taxation Matters, Process Re-Engineering, Budgeting, Business Modelling, Analytical Reviews, Profitability Management, Business Portfolio Management, Risk Management, Auditing, Process Appraisals, Financial Modelling, Training/ Facilitation on Management and Financial matters. Jack has a MBA in Finance and Bsc BA. CPA(K)

Susan Otieno, Head of Fundraising
Susan has extensive experience in fundraising and programming. She has over 10 years’ experience working in ActionAid Kenya championing the rights of poor and excluded Women as LRP manager, Grants and Contracts Administrator, IPD Fundraising Coordinator and currently as the Head of Fundraising. She has also supported ActionAid Lesotho as the head of Programmes and worked as the Interim Regional Partnership Coordinator for Southern Africa within the ActionAid International Secretariat. Susan holds a Masters degree in International studies and a Bachelor’s degree in economics and Sociology.

Samson Michura, Partner Support Unit Team Leader
Samson is a development and project management expert with over 14 years’ experience in Community development, organizational leadership, project management, quality control, and development research. Prior to joining ActionAid Kenya in January 2012, Samson worked with the Government of Kenya, Kenya Institute of Management (KIM), and Education Center for Women in Democracy (ECWD). Samson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Linguistics, a Master of Science degree in Development and Project Planning with additional postgraduate training in Health Systems Management, Leadership and Management. He is currently pursuing a PhD degree in Project Planning and Management and is a member of Development Studies Association (DSA-UK).

Jane Labatt Kigen, Partner Support Unit Team Leader
Jane Labatt Kigen has worked for 10 years in ActionAid and is a seasoned manager and leader with vast experience drawn from civil society. She is currently the cluster manager for one of the regions where Actionaid works. She is a degree holder in Education and Human Resource from Egerton University with Post graduate diploma in Community Development among other qualifications. She has continuously worked to empower communities to approach development from a rights perspective and to advocate for provision of relevant information to policy makers, associate communities and relevant stakeholders. She is passionate about economic empowerment, education, health and human rights with bias in women and girls’ rights, poverty alleviation and social services.

Lawrence Mwachidudu, Partner Support Unit Team Leader
Lawrence holds a Bachelor of Fisheries Science. Having worked with several Civil Society Organizations, he brings on board vast experience in the areas of project and organizational management, public relations, mentoring and training of adults and youth. He has a passion for innovative sustainable community development, strengthening of local available skills and a bias towards community development through ownership and sustainability.

Rosemary Arende, Head of HROD & Essential Services
Rosemary has more than 10 years of experience in Human Resources Development profession leading effective strategy development and implementation; compensation and benefits management, employee resourcing, work force planning, and change management. Rosemary worked in M-KOPA Solar – Kenya Limited, as a HR Manager developing and aligning policies and strategy for the HR Department. She also worked at the British High Commission, International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), United States International University (USIU), World Vision International and Care International (K), where she led the deliverables of the various HR teams. Rosemary possesses a Masters degree in Human Resource Management, and Bachelors degree in Industrial Psychology. She is a member the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
