ActionAid is a non-partisan, non-religious development organisation that has been working in Kenya since 1972 to end poverty and injustices.
From educating children when it started in the early 1970s, ActionAid now focuses on tackling the root causes of poverty rather than just meeting people’s immediate needs.
It is among the leading anti-poverty agency working directly with over one million poor and excluded people in over 20 districts of Kenya.
The organisation is primarily concerned with the promotion and defence of economic, social, cultural, civil and political human rights.
Employing local staff in its work, the organisation supports projects and programmes that promote the interests of poor and excluded people at all levels.
Recognising that poverty cannot be fought single-handedly, ActionAid works with others in the fight to end poverty and injustices.
Our vision: a world without poverty and injustice in which every person enjoys their right to a life with dignity.
Our mission: to work with poor and excluded people to eradicate poverty by overcoming injustice and inequity that cause it.
Values
Mutual respect: recognising the innate dignity and worth of all people and the value of diversity.
Fairness, equity and justice: ensuring that everyone, regardless of sex, age, race, colour, class and religion, has equal opportunity for expression and for utilising their potential.
Integrity: Honesty, transparency and accountability - ¬being accountable for the effectiveness of our actions and open in our judgement and communications with others.
Solidarity with the poor and excluded people: our only bias shall be in favor of the interests of the poor, excluded and marginalised.
Courage of conviction: being creative and radical without fear of failure, in pursuit of the highest possible impact on the causes of poverty.
Humility: recognising that we are part of a bigger alliance against poverty and requiring our presentation and behaviour to be modest.
Respect for the rights of women and children: We believe in deliberately strengthening the capacity of women to meet their basic needs and to improve on their position; and have a strong commitment to the rights of children.
Independence: as an organisation, remaining independent of any religious, party-politics or other partisan affiliation.
