National anti-FGM forum - consolidating efforts to end FGM in Kenya

ActionAid Kenya in partnership with the Anti- Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Board under the state department of planning in the  Ministry of Devolution and Planning has organized a National Anti-FGM Forum which will be held in Embu County on 19th Nov 2015 in Kitololoni catholic mission in Makima.

This move will consolidate efforts to ensure that the community, government and civil society speak in one voice to end FGM in Kenya.

National women rights coordinator of ActionAid Kenya Agnes Kola said:

‘‘The forum is an opportunity for all FGM actors to synchronize their plans around FGM  and seek responsibilities from communities and those charged with enacting the anti FGM  law. With a robust media campaign that ActionAid Kenya will be rolling out in November and December 2015, we hope to see a massive reduction of FGM activities in Kenya.”

Keynote speakers include; Hon. Linah Kilimo, Chair, Anti FGM Board, the County Government of Embu among many other key stakeholders.

Participants include key actors from Embu, Baringo, West Pokot, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Migori, and Garissa Counties.

ActionAid is a global movement of people working together to achieve greater human rights for all and defeat poverty. We believe people in poverty have the power within them to create change for themselves, their families and communities. ActionAid is a catalyst for that change.
