Shifting the Power is a 3 year project that is supported by Start Network a consortium of six organizations namely ActionAid, CAFOD, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide, Oxfam and Tear Fund.
The project was formed after the realization that humanitarian response is not well balanced, such that national non-governmental organizations who are the first and main responders to disasters are not enabled to take a lead in Humanitarian Response.
In its first year of operation the project has had a series of self-reflection and assessment moments that begun on July and it’s for that purpose they held a workshop in Maanzoni, Machakos County on 30th November 2015.
The workshop brought together 9 national NGO partners of Shifting the Power project with the aim of developing capacity strengthening initiatives that will be carried out in 2016 at community, institutional (NGO), County and National level to guarantee accountability of the whole humanitarian system in Kenya to affected communities.
Capacity strengthening involves fortifying humanitarian response skills of staff and disaster committees to influence co-ordination skill at county level to deliver quality, timely and effective humanitarian response to communities.
The six counties where the project is set to be implemented in Kenya are Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu Turkana, Wajir and West Pokot.
