What we do

ActionAid Kenya is a non-partisan, non-religious development organisation that has been working in Kenya since 1972 to end poverty and injustices. ActionAid Kenya is among the leading anti-poverty agencies working directly with over one million poor and excluded people in over 14 counties in Kenya.

We have over 40 years of knowledge and experience working with poor communities, and yet every day we are learning the solutions from the people we work with.

ActionAid kenya is un-apologetic in advancing Women's Rights and ensuring that Women Living in Poverty and Exclusion are at the center of our work in Kenya. We commit to work with Women,Children and Youth to claim and realize their constitutional rights through working within three main pillars; empowerment,solidarity and campaigning

ActionAid Kenya's work revolves around its Revised Strategy Paper; Deepening 'Making Our Righs' Count 2015-2017.AAK is giuded by three strategic objectives:

1. Empowering Women and Girls living in poverty to Challenge Violence and gain political      participation at all levels

2. Promoting access and control of land and natural resources for communities living in poverty and Exclusion

3. Enhancing the capacity of women and youth living in poverty and exclusion to hold public institutions  accountable for delivery of public services at all levels

We will ensure that resilience and conflict sensitivity is mainstreamed in all our programmes and policy work to integrate disaster risk reduction and reduce the impact of stress and shocks on the people living in poverty and exclusion.

 

 

 

  • Strategic Objective 1: Empowering 90,000 women and girls living in poverty and exclusion to challenge violence and gain political participation at all levels
     
    We work to ensure that women and girls living in poverty are safer in both public and private spaces and to ensure women and girls from communities living in poverty and exclusion occupy leadership positions and participate in decision making.
     
  • Strategic Objective 2: Promoting access and control over land and other productive resources for communities living in poverty and Exclusion for improved livelihood security  

    We work with communities living in poverty and exclusion to access and control land and other productive resources and aim to improve income and livelihood diversity for 8,000 women living in poverty and exclusion. We also work to enhance preparedness to disasters and conflicts by communities living in poverty and exclusion

  • Strategic Objective 3: Enhancing the capacity of women and youth living in poverty and exclusion to hold public institutions to account for delivery of basic services

    We work to ensure that Public institutions improve access to quality basic services for people living in poverty and exclusion and to ensure that National and County Governments adopt progressive tax policies and reforms to increase cooperate revenue generation. We also work to ensure enhanced participation of youth living in poverty and exclusion in delivery of basic services through accountability-led processes.
