River Cess was created as number 12 out of the 15 counties in Liberia; it got the name from the word Cestos, which mean crawfish basket. Cestos Town is the headquartes. River Cess is one of the least developed counties in the country. Access to safe drinking water, health care and education are constant challenges for the around 53.000 inhabitants. This is partly due to the lack of accessibility as the roads are very poor, making villages inaccessible by car, and the geographical placement is isolated in relation to other cities.
