ACTIVISTA Italy
ACTIVISTA campaigners from Rome, Florence, Lucca and Milan joined festival-goers to spread the HungerFREE message in Tuscany
Independent Italian music festival Italia Wave Love 2008 attracted over 60,000 festival-goers to Livorno and ActionAid were there to get a piece of the action.
Every available space at the festival was covered with posters, pins and action cards with the message: Support HungerFREE.
The festival featured top artists including The Chemical Brothers, Gnarls Barkley and Ting Tings, many of who encouraged their enthusiastic audience to put an end to global hunger by shouting during their sets, “Stop hunger! Put your head where it counts!”
HungerFREE also enjoyed press coverage from interviews on national radio and television stations.

The only action wasn’t to be found just on the main stage, with ActionAid’s Psyco Stage drawing in the crowds, who also had the opportunity to enjoy music in the HungerFREE chill out zone while relaxing in deck and swing chairs.
Festival-goers also had the opportunity to put themselves in a silhouette of an ActionAid campaigner to show their support for the HungerFREE campaign.
“The result was a massive mobilisation,” said ActionAid Italy’s Campaigns and Activism team.
“Hundreds of young people literally put their faces and bodies in the silhouette.”
After the sun went down, a HungerFREE video also appeared on the festival’s mega-screens before every artist came on stage, featuring Italian artists who encouraged people to get involved in the campaign.
