PVA aims to link disaster preparedness and response to disasters, to long-term development.
Participatory Vulnerability Analysis (PVA)
ActionAid has developed a tool to involve communities in an in-depth examination of their vulnerability in a way that triggers action

What is PVA?

Participatory Vulnerability Analysis (PVA) is a logical process that allows communities and groups in the community to examine in depth, their vulnerabilities. It then empowers and motivates them to take appropriate action about this.

The overall aim of PVA is to link disaster preparedness and response to disasters, to long-term development. The message at the heart of PVA is that communities know their situation and can contribute to improving it.

The PVA builds on their knowledge and promotes the message that everybody is entitled to fundamental rights and when these are fulfilled, people can be safe and overcome poverty.

"Now that I have understood what vulnerability is, I ask of all the officials not to be the cause of vulnerability but to help people to avoid vulnerability."
Sylvestre Ndayizeye, Governor of Karusi province, Burundi
