Cui Wenqin and her mother outside their damaged house
Cui Wenqin, 43, from Dazhuba village, Shaanxi Province, China
Cui Wenqin’s home and land were branded as geologically too dangerous to stay after the earthquake struck. But they had to live there anyway because there was nowhere else to go.

“Every day we worried that the house would collapse,” she says.

Her farmland and home were badly damaged by falling rocks and their only bull killed. Living alone with her elderly parents, Wenqin, 43, had to make do as best she could.

They found another area in Dazhuba village to build on and with her grown up daughters are setting to work.

“Now at least we have a safe place to rebuild our home,” she says.

"With help from ActionAid, we have confidence in our future.”

ActionAid has provided the family with RMB 10,000 (US$1,465), in addition to the RMB 20,000 (US$2,930) allocated by the local government to rebuild their home.
