This page is for MPs around the world to show their commitment to the global fight against HIV&AIDS and pledge support for the AIDS Week
European parliamentarians have been invited to join the
AIDS Week mobilisations at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, on
May 22nd.
It will be an opportunity to show their support to parliamentarians in other parts of the world, who are calling for comprehensive responses to HIV&AIDS, greater involvement of people living with HIV&AIDS and respect for human rights; and to demand international accountability from the richest countries (including the G8) to fund the global fight against HIV&AIDS.
If you are a Member of Parliament, please send us your messages for the Global AIDS Week.
You can also choose to answer the following questions and they will be raised at the event:
-
What role should parliamentarians have in the response to HIV&AIDS?
-
What challenges are you facing in your country when promoting comprehensive responses to HIV&AIDS? (e.g. sexual education, condom use, affordable/generic drugs, gender equality, health systems strengthening, involvement of people living with HIV&AIDS and vulnerable groups)
-
With which parliamentary and political alliances do you work?
-
What message would you send to the European Parliament when it meets during the AIDS Week?
-
What message would you send to the G8 leaders?

MP's Comments
Bangladesh
"Bangladesh is sitting on a time bomb and the Government of Bangladesh seems to be oblivious to the situation. Concerted effort is necessary throughout all the regions on earth to halt the further spread of HIV&AIDS. It is necessary that MPs of other countries come forward to join hands with us to provide encouragement and be supportive by sharing experience, persuading their country to provide assistance to combat the disease."
Ghulam Muhammed Quader, Ex-MP Bangladesh National Parliament
Malawi
"MEPs should remember African countries in the fight against AIDS. MPs are the role model, educators and resource mobilisators. We all must sensitize people on the dangers of HIV/AIDS and the way they can live positively with it."
Hon Mtukula and Hon. Chanthunya, Malawi Parliament
Zimbabwe
"As HIV&AIDS has become a Global challenge, there is need for strong organized linkages amongst Parliamentarians from all corners of the Globe to address the major facets needed to fight AIDS, i.e. adequate funding, effective leadership and political commitment."
Hon Blessing Chebundo, Zimbabwe Parliament
