ActionAid is a global movement of people working together to further human rights and defeat poverty for all.

Rumphi Local Rights Programme started its work in 2007 in Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe, mwankhunikira, Mwalweni, Mwamlowe, Jalavikuwa, Chisovya, Zolokere, Katumbi, Kachulu and Mwahenga.

The programme in the area is implemented by chikulamaembe women’s forum and Rumphi women’s Forum. Through their many interventions, children who dropped out of school for different reasons have been brought back to school. Mother groups have started self help initiatives like having vegetable gardens which are aimed at income generation. The LRP also introduced the STAR approach to enable women stand up for their rights and entitlements.
