WHAT:Approx 20,000 people will march from Botha’s Garden to the International Convention Centre (ICC), through to the Old Pavilion in Durban.
International aid agency ActionAid will be marching, singing & dancing, carrying giant, three-metre-wide balloons with the message “Let’s fight climate change and hunger together”.
ActionAid will march alongside 500 rural women from across Southern Africa to send a message to governments and policy makers at COP17 that their voices must not be shut out of the negotiations.
High impact photo and filming opportunity, with songs, cultural dances and the opportunity to interview spokespeople from across Africa and Asia.
WHEN/ WHERE: Saturday 3 December
08:30 at Botha’s Garden/ King Dinuzulu Garden (near the corner of Julius Nyerere Street & Dr Pixley Kaseme Street) for pre-march speeches. Join ActionAid an the Rural Women's Assembly for interviews, sound bites and dances.
9:00 marching begins at Botha’s Garden/ King Dinzulu & proceeds past the ICC, converging en route with faith community members and special needs groups & children at Speakers Corner.
13:00 at ICC: Speeches & statements handed over to UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres.
The GDA march ends at the Old Pavilion site (corner of OR Tambo parade and KE Masinga).
Following the march, protestors will move to the North Beach for an evening concert.
WHY: As world leaders struggle to reach agreement at the climate negotiations, people from across the globe are demanding that a fair climate deal that avoids runaway climate change must be agreed. The rally will highlight the voices of ordinary people, including those most affected by the impacts of climate change.

After negotiations with the City of Durban, the starting point of the march has changed. It was previously advertised that the march would start at Curries Fountain, however it will now begin at Botha’s Gardens.
