RIO+20: Photo/Filming Opportunity

INDUSTRIAL FARMING CANNOT FEED THE WORLD

What: A high impact photo and filming opportunity in which groups of protestors will be ‘force fed’ chemical-ridden food on two giant spoons by industrial scale agriculture.  The protestors will carry placards reading: “No more poisoned food” “Industrial farming does not feed the world”.

When: Thursday 21st June at 9:30am (Brazil Time)

Where: Copacabana Beach in front of Rio+20 cube close to Windsor Atlantica Hotel

Why: There are nearly a billion hungry people in the world and unless the global food system is overhauled now, millions more will be at risk.  World leaders must use the Rio+20 Summit to initiate a much needed shift in the global food system, from large-scale industrial agriculture, to a model that places the lives and livelihoods of small-scale farmers at its heart. A significant change in the global food system is urgently needed, but instead the debate at Rio is riddled with false ‘green solutions’ that are a direct threat to food security.
