Between October 3 -17 rural women from across Africa are raising awareness about their lack of access to and control over land and resources. This campaign was initiated in 2012 and highlights the many vulnerabilities women face because they do not enjoy the same rights as men.
Rural women are more likely to be at risk of forced eviction from the land they live on, and face higher levels of poverty and food insecurity.
ActionAid Palestine joined forces with the Palestinian women and youth to support 15 Days of Action to help raise awareness land rights in Africa.
In the video below youth from Bethlehem share messages of solidarity with the rural women as a delegation climb the highest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.
The group of women will launch a charter of principles and demands on women’s access to and control over their land once they reach the top of the mountain. To follow their progress you can use the #women2kilimanjaro hashtag on social media.
