Aiding women to get justice
Aiding women to get justice
The community is breaking down silence and there is a noticeable increase of denunciation of GBV cases.

In partnership with the human rights forum (CLADHO), one of Actionaid’s implementing partners in gender based violence project funded by EU, over 100 women facing violence have received legal assistance including representation in courts of law and have been able to regain justice and dignity.

CLADHO has also provided trainings to local authorities including school authorities on legal support and human rights laws. About 275 GBV cases were identified as appropriate for legal interventions; 36 cases filed before classical courts and of those 24 have been completed and final judgements delivered in favour of the victims.

Important to note is that several cases have been treated and solve by local authorities and mediators, with heavy backlog of cases in courts.

This means that several victims are yet to receive justice they deserve. Many cases requiring intervention of lawyers have not received any legal assistance, For example, 18 cases were registered during this year and have not been fixed for first hearing.

However, the community is breaking down silence and there is a noticeable increase of denunciation of GBV cases. This increase of GBV cases especially in need of legal assistance, has affected Actionaid’s implementation because the activity budget line has been over solicited, yet there is increasing number of victims requiring legal assistance.
