Cherlandine Alexandre was just 3 years old when she was buried in the rubble of the Haiti earthquake for 3 days.
Cherlandine was buried in the rubble for three days with her dead mother and sister.
At the time of the Haiti earthquake, Cherlandine Alexandre was 3 years old. Since being rescued from the rubble, she has been attending a school organised by one of our Haitian partner organisations, COZPAM, and is being looked after by Mona Clerveau, a local resident.
At this school, the Ecole Communautaire De Philippeau, Cherlandine has been taking part in exercises with staff to help her work through the trauma. We call these psychosocial activities, and they've helped her release some of the trauma caused by the earthquake.
These psychosocial activities help the emotional wellbeing of those affected by the earthquake, helping them express their feelings and get used to the every day realities of their lives.
Through this work we help people regain a sense of normality.
There are also group activities that Cherlandine has been involved with, that help to re-establish a sense of community cohesion, especially where people have been displaced by the disaster.
