Just last week, 29th- 30th November, ActionAid Ghana organised a stakeholder conference calling for the safe disbandment of alleged witches’ camps in Ghana. A communiqué was issued at the close of the conference stating demands for government to fulfil regarding the disbandment of the camps.
Following the conference and subsequent issuance of the communiqué, AAG is again organising a 3-kilometre walk in Tamale on Saturday, December 10, 2011 to sustain the efforts and demands for safe disbandment of the camps. The walk, which aims at raising public awareness and support for the demands made of government by alleged witches, will involve participants from the Regional Coordinating Council, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, ActionAid Ghana, Songtaba , Civil Society Organisations, keep-fit clubs in Tamale, the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police and the general public.
Over 1000 people are expected to participate in this walk.
