Team ActionAid SA: Professor William Gumede #Run4Rights

Prof. William Gumede is Associate Professor and directs the Programme for the Management of State-Owned Companies, School of Governance, University of the Witwatersrand and Senior Associate & Program Director at the Africa Asia Centre, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London.

He is the Chairperson of the Democracy Works Foundation and serves as Chairperson on ActionAid South Africa’s Board. He is the author of a couple of number 1 bestsellers. His most recent book is Restless Nation: Making Sense of Troubled Times.

He enjoys running, swimming, gardening, cooking, reading, travelling and painting. He is passionate about social justice, climate change, democracy, and saving lives through blood, bone marrow and organ donation - which he is actively promoting.

Asked why he is running for team ActionAid South Africa, he says, “I believe in the values, causes and ideals ActionAid stands for. I want to see the women of South Africa have equality, freedom of choice, movement and identity.”
