International Engagement

South Africa is an influential player in international relations and has played important roles in structures such as the African Union, the South African Development Community and the United Nations. As a regional hegemon,South Africa is part of a number of international structure such as the G20, BRICS (Brazil,Russia,India,China,South Africa) and IBSA (India,Brazil,South Africa).

At times government’s policy positions have not been in line with the constitution. Acknowledging this recently, it has committed to better consultation with the public and civil society in spaces such as BRICS providing an opportunity for civil engagement.

In The International Area ASSA thus seeks to Link local rights based issues with the global policy process that impact communities we work with, engage the department of international Relations of Cooperation (DIRCO) and take part in Dirco/Civil society process and to work in solidarity with Actionaid international and country offices to take common position and actions in the international erena. To create platforms for civil society and the public to respond to state actions and positions taken in international forums.
