Everyone was a child once. Most of you reading this will have happy childhood memories because you were well treated by your family; they gave you food to eat, supported your education and nurtured you into the person you are today.
However, how often do you take time to think about other children who are homeless, without food, education and with no help on the horizon? Every day, many children have to confront their life alone without familial support or guidance; without anyone to care for them. These children have no life prospects but instead are forced to earn money to survive on by any means possible: from jobs without Rights to begging or even crime.
Children are everyone’s future. And disadvantaged children now, mean a disadvantaged society in the future. We can, and must, change this.
How can we help these disadvantaged children? We must help them find safe places to live, and we must help them to access their Right to education so that they can develop, realize their potential and be able to take an active role in society to help themselves, and others like them, out of poverty. We must give them the chance that so many of us take for granted – to enjoy a safe and caring childhood during which they can lay down their own foundations for a life out of poverty.
We are all human beings and we share the same planet. Just as it is our responsibility to care for the environment for generations to come, we must also take responsibility for those children who were born into a world without the care and support that every child deserves. God has given us two hands so we must use both of them to help these children. And while we’re at it, let’s use our mouths too to advocate for their Rights. So let’s join together in this endeavor to give them a better life and give the world a better future.
