In Thailand there are so many development organizations - both governmental and non-governmental (NGO) – which address a whole range of issues such as children’s Rights, community development, health, environment, women’s Rights, animal’s welfare and many more besides. But only some of these organizations are well-known and get major support from the Thai populace. So I’m curious and ask myself, ‘How will ActionAid stand out from the crowd and become better known in Thailand?’
AA Thailand was only founded recently (in 2004) but we have already done so many things to help put an end to poverty and injustice in Thailand. We have run many projects, campaigns and other activities, and have engaged with partner organizations in our work both at local and national level (see the rest of our website for details). We have proved how effective we can be, so thing that bothers me is when I mentioned ActionAid Thailand to some of my friends, the only answer I received was, ”who?”
That is a response which I hope to change.
My responsibility here is to publicize our ‘actions’ and to promote the AAT brand in order to both raise people’s awareness on the issues we deal with, as well as to increase direct support and funding for our work from within Thailand. This is going to be no mean feat, but I do believe that with our fantastic team and its dedication to our work, we can achieve it.
So from now on, ActionAid Thailand will not only develop projects but we will also give them a voice so that they will help gain increased support which will enable us to implement many more such Actions.
What an exciting task! I look forward to putting AAT to the forefront of everyone’s minds, so that next time I ask people about ActionAid Thailand, they will turn round, smile, and tell me about the amazing work being done.
