Tax Power & financing development

Tax is powerful. It funds schools and hospitals – in Europe and everywhere in the world.

We all pay tax, but right now, big companies aren’t paying anywhere near as much as they should in developing countries. This takes billions of dollars away from vital public services every year, and the world’s poorest people are suffering as a result.

Scandals in Europe like “Luxleaks” have put the issue on the top of the European Commission’s agenda. ActionAid’s Tax Power campaign is working to ensure the EU gets its own house in order when it comes to addressing tax avoidance and evasion, but also in ensuring that developing countries can benefit from such reforms.

In time of social hardship in many European countries, and while inequalities are on the rise globally, it is more urgent than ever to close the loopholes that allow companies to avoid paying their fair share of tax.
