Solidarity Message for Japan

ActionAid International Zimbabwe (AAIZ), an agency which is part of a global ActionAid International (AAI) family working with poor and excluded people in 52 countries in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe, is closely watching with horror and shock the Japan disaster which has happened following the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on 11 March 2011.

We are informed that thousands of people are missing, hundred of thousands have been displaced, and millions are without water, food or heating in near freezing temperatures. We are informed that the death toll is expected to exceed 15 000.

On behalf of AAIZ partners, communities, associates and AAIZ staff, we are deeply shocked by the trail of destruction caused by the earthquake and tsunami in the coastal regions of Japan and devastation and dislocation of people. AAIZ is in solidarity with the affected people and the strong Japanese allies who are working to end the suffering of people. We have all been moved by the images seen on television and in the media and the sorrow that is being felt in Japan at the moment.

We understand your pain and shock and would like to share with you our deepest sympathies to all those affected, and not forgetting the vulnerable women and children caught up in the disaster.

Our thoughts are with you during these trying times. We are sure that you will recover from this very soon and will be back on track.
