End poverty together.

Canada Sets Bad Example at Climate Talks

(Durban, 28 November 2011)

As news breaks that Canada will pull out of the Kyoto Protocol, Ilana Solomon, ActionAid’s Head of Climate Change Policy in the US says:

“Canada pulling out of the Kyoto Protocol sets an extremely bad precedent here at the talks. It can do nothing but further enhance the mistrust that already exists between rich and poor nations.

“Canada must stop taking its lead from the US and instead show seriousness in combating the global climate crisis.

“The  Kyoto Protocol is the only legally binding treaty on climate change with targets and timelines. If they are serious about tackling climate change, rich nations, including Canada, should agree to a second commitment period in addition to a broader more comprehensive climate agreement.”
