End poverty together.

South Africa stands firm on green climate fund

(Durban, 29 November 2011) As the South African Government says the success of the COP17 climate summit will depend on whether or not a  Green Climate Fund will be operationalised in Durban, Henry Malumo, ActionAid’s Africa Policy and Campaigns Manager says:

“The South African Government has sent a very clear message on behalf of Africa and other poor nations today that it will not allow rich countries to sabotage plans for a Green Climate Fund.

“It is scandalous that the USA is attempting to railroad negotiators from putting into action a climate cash plan agreed in Cancun last year.

“Africa has today made clear that supporting the millions of people in poor countries hit hardest by climate change is non-negotiable.

“ActionAid salutes their strength.”
