As the USA fail to demonstrate any intention to raise new climate cash in its opening remarks in Durban, Ilana Solomon, ActionAid’s Head of Climate Change Policy in the USA said:
“The US must stop its bullying and allow negotiators at the climate talks in Durban to deliver on their $100billion a year commitment.
“Climate cash is urgently needed by millions of peasant farmers across the globe to protect their dwindling harvests. We cannot wait for another global food crisis before getting climate cash to those who need it most.
“Actions must follow words if the US is genuinely concerned about Africa and fighting climate change, like it says.
“Times are tough and budgets are tight, but new and innovative sources of financing like a small tax on the transactions of banks or a tax on shipping or aviation could raise billions.”
