ActionAid International, ACORD and Oxfam with support from other partners convened the African Women’s Land Rights Conference, from the 30th May to the 2nd June 2011 in Nairobi, Kenya to discuss the right to land and justice for African women, share experiences and strategies in addressing violations that women are suffering from in their everyday lives.
The conference brought together women’s and land rights activists and organisations including farmer associations, pastoralist
groups, women survivor groups of SGBV, lawyers, parliamentarians and academics committed to strengthening women’s rights in Africa. The meeting was participatory and allowed engagement of participants to put forth their own experiences with land issues as well as sexual and gender based violence within the content.
